Candle Care Guide: How to Get the Best Burn

Candle Care Guide: How to Get the Best Burn

A beautifully crafted candle deserves to be enjoyed to its fullest potential. Proper candle care not only extends the life of your candle but also ensures a cleaner, safer, and more enjoyable fragrance experience.

Follow these simple tips to get the best burn from your Ilaris candle.

Allow the Wax to Melt Evenly

The first burn is the most important. Allow your candle to burn until the entire top layer of wax has melted from edge to edge. This usually takes 2–4 hours, depending on the size of the candle.

This helps prevent tunneling, where the candle burns straight down the center and leaves unused wax around the edges.

Trim the Wick Before Each Burn

Before lighting your candle, trim the wick to approximately 5 mm (¼ inch).

A properly trimmed wick helps:

  • Create a clean, even flame
  • Reduce soot and smoke
  • Prevent excessive flickering
  • Extend the candle's lifespan

Burn for the Right Amount of Time

For the best performance, burn your candle for at least 2 hours but no more than 4 hours at a time.

Burning a candle for too long can cause the vessel to become excessively hot and may affect the quality of the fragrance.

Keep Away from Drafts

Place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from open windows, fans, air vents, and drafts.

Airflow can cause uneven burning, excessive flickering, and smoke.

Extinguish Your Candle Safely

Whenever possible, use a candle snuffer instead of blowing out the flame. This helps reduce smoke and keeps the wick centered for the next burn.

Keep the Wax Clean

Dust, wick trimmings, and other debris can affect how your candle burns.

Always keep the wax surface clean and free from foreign objects before lighting.

Know When It's Time to Stop

Discontinue use when approximately 1 cm (½ inch) of wax remains at the bottom of the vessel.

This helps prevent overheating and protects the container.

Safety First

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Keep away from children and pets.
  • Do not place candles near flammable materials.
  • Always burn candles on a heat-resistant surface.
